Fixing paper jam on copy machine

Paper jams are a common problem that occurs with many copy machines, regardless of the make and model. While most of the copy machines out there work and function in the same way, there are a few things that one can do in order to resolve this issue as noted below:

#1 Note The Location: The first thing that one should do is note the location of the paper jam. Did this paper jam occur in the feed, or is located near the end where the paper shoots out? Most of the time, this jam can be noted without opening up any parts of the copy machine.

#2 Open Up Copy Machine: If the paper jam can’t be spotted, it’s wise to open up the copy machine lid or the side compartment. Every make and model will vary, so it’s wise to check the manual of your particular machine. If the manual isn’t available, one may want to check websites such as Youtube, where users commonly post videos on these identical problems.

#3 Attempt To Pull: Once the paper jam has been spotted, one is going to want to pull the opposite way of where the paper is settling. It’s best to pull lightly as if the paper is pulled too hard, residue could be left behind, making matters worse. It’s wise to also shut down the copy machine before attempting to remove the paper just to play it safe, in case of an electrical mishap.

#4 Check The Roller: When the paper has finally been removed, be sure to check the roller to ensure that no paper is left behind. Paper jams can commonly happen due to paper sticking together or a roller that is getting worn out.

If the problem continues to happen, the copy machine may have either a faulty part, or it may need the work of a service technician. It’s best to follow the steps above first before calling in a professional.
